Dia 25: La Receta para Arroz a Banda

Hola mis amores,

Sunday was awesome because I learned how to make Arroz a Banda which is muy parecido a Paella pero un poco diferente. I took lots of pictures to capture all of the steps. Rafael said he would write down la receta oficial for me soon. I really enjoyed helping him make the food. 

He is so silly because he doesn't like to be in photos candidly, only photos that he is smiling in. Of course, I tried to sneak candid photos of him cooking BUT he made me go through all of my photos afterwards so that he could make sure I didn't have any of him which meant I had to delete them. Oh Rafael. What a goose berry. 

Nonetheless, the cooking experience was awesome. We also made this aioli mayonnaise sauce from scratch that was DANK. The main ingredients of Arroz de Banda was: gambas (shrimp), calamari (squid), choco (something like squid), arroz, pimiento verde, pimiento rojo, tomate sin piel, una sopa de pesacado, ajo y otras especias. IT WAS DELISH ON A DISH. Totes going to make this is in the Estad Unid (pronounced Es-todd Uoh-need... all 
the cool kids are saying it these days). 

Meanwhile, I am partially giving such a large effort to learn the recipes to these authentic dishes because Julie really wants me to teach them to her. PERO that little betch isn't even reading my blog. Quizas debo guardar la receta como un secreto.

(a gas tank because using real fire to cook with is mejor)


(unas de las ingredientes)


(necesita limpiar el choco y calamar)


(corta verduras)


(quita los huesos del gamba, pero SALVA los huesos)


(corta el choco y calamar)


(quita el piel de los tomates)


(cocina los huesos del gamba con aciete)


(añade agua)




(pulse the huesos and liquido to get all the good shrimp flavor)


(strain that delicious sauce and add it to the caldo de pescado)


(cocina las verduras, choco y calamar)


(usa este para la mayonaise)


(mezcla para crear ali-oli)


(añade el caldo de pescado)


(hierve el liquido)




(añade 12 puñados de arroz blanco)


(espera para que el arroz absorba el liquido)

After dinner it was just a chill night studying. Yea. studying. That awkward moment when you actually have to study on STUDY abroad. I promise it's a one time thing. 

Tomorrow we get to play soccer again in the afternoon. Only this time we are playing with the new group of students who arrived last week. Their program has 96 people in it and they are all from different universities. My group has only 31. It goes without saying that we are the cooler group.

  1. Lots of delicious ingredients goes into paella. Homemade mayo and all the seafood yumm! Can't wait for you and Julie to make this.
